Last week was our local 4-H county fair. All the girls are members of 4-H, as were Hubs and I both when we were growing up. It's always a flurry of activity the weeks before the fair getting the girls exhibits ready. In previous years the girls have shown sheep at the fair, but for the last few years they did not have the interest anymore. This year the girls did indoor entries.
Miss H entered her photography which is very good. I often feel that she takes better photos then I do. She also entered some of her drawings.
When you turn your exhibits in to be judged, you have to answer questions about what you have worked on. This is a great way for kids to get comfortable with public speaking.
This was one of her photos she entered. I just love it!
Miss H received a Senior champion for her oil painting. She was so surprised. I was a very proud Mama.
Miss E did a fondant cake. Miss E is all about cake, it's her favorite thing to bake. She spends a lot of time designing her cakes and really enjoys deciding what to do for each cake. She has a little baking business and sells her cakes to friends and family. She wants to go to pastry school.
There was some stiff competition this year. Miss E got a 4th place on her cake. She sold her cake in a silent auction. I really loved her design this year and I think she did a great job.
Little E is clover, which means she is not old enough to be a 4-Her but she can still enter things in the clover category. It's kind of like being in training. All the clovers get the same ribbons and learn how to work on their projects and how to present them to the judges. When she turned her exhibits into the judges she stood and talked about each one. She entered a photo, a drawing and cookies. She did such a good job with the judges. It really helps that she loves to talk. We got a call the next day from one of the judges who spoke to her and they awarded her the Mason Nance Clover Award, which is given to one clover demonstrating outstanding craftsmanship and 4-H spirit.
She was presented the award before the livestock sale on Saturday night in front of a pretty large audience. She got right up there like a pro and posed for pictures. I was not able to go and watch because I had my chemo treatment the day before and the heat was just too much for me. I am very proud of my Little E. I wish I could have been there. There were lots of family and friends there to cheer her on!
We are always relieved after the fair is over. All of the girls work was rewarded and they had a great time hanging in the barns with their friends and cousins, which by far is the best part of the fair by far.
