Miss H's birthday, and a trip south

We just got back from a long weekend visiting family in North Carolina. We were very busy and had a great weekend. We were able to look at a couple of schools with Miss H and celebrated her 17th birthday.

 
We had dinner at our favorite spot to go in NC. Miss H got a huge cake, It was delicious!

 
I had a little time to get out and take some pictures, I now want chickens. They are so fun to photograph.

 
This is Eeyore, he likes to bray really early in the morning before it gets light. He also has a big belly.

 
and has very fuzzy ears.

 
 
I missed Finny and Sadie while we were gone but Spanky helped me deal with my feelings. (Spanky does not like his picture taken, he always looks away from the camera)

I can't wait to go back but it's nice to be home.

Wishing every one a happy Mother's day weekend. Especially to My Mom.

 Thanks Mom for taking care of us four hooligans and putting up with all of our antics. The rotten tomato fights, cow pie battles, mud fights at the pond, and all of the filthy laundry you had to endure after days spent with our 4-H project animals in the barn. Spending countless hours watching us play sports and show at the fair. For cooking endless meals for our voracious appetites and feeding all of our friends who were always hanging around. For clearing the snow off the pond every time it snowed so we could skate and play ice hockey with our friends. I am sure it wasn't easy to be a farm wife after growing up in the city but you did a great job, even with TBCS's chicken adventure, hatchet in hand.

 
My girls always are full of wonder at how pretty your garden is and they say there is a garden fairy who lives in your garden, but I know that she is you. Always out there nurturing your garden and encouraging it to grow.

Happy New Year!

We had a wonderful week visiting with all of our out of town family. It has been a while since we have all been together. We ate lots, talked lots, and the kids played a lot. Yesterday morning we woke up to an unexpected 2 inches of snow. It was the highlight of the week for our southern cousins who very rarely get any of the white stuff.

They had a ball.

Family Gathering

We have had a wonderful Christmas here on Spruce Hill. Eaten way too many meals and sweets. Opened an enormous amount of gifts. Before Christmas the girls asked me what I wanted and I told them, all I need is you girls and Daddy and I am happy with that. Family is the most important thing.

As most families are winding down their festivities ours is just kicking into gear. As I sit here typing on the computer I have a house full of guests. Happy girls and one boy running around doing karaoke, jumping on the trampoline and playing indoor flashlight tag. All of us gathering to celebrate Christmas, but sad at the same time. My husband's Grandmother died yesterday at the age of 98. So our gathering is filled with a few tears mixed in. But as we sit here together we seek comfort in our memories of her. She was a tough lady, a devout Catholic, and an amazing cook. She loved all her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was one of a kind. She will be missed. We all love you and will miss you Nana!

The day after

Wow we got a lot of snow yesterday! The official Spruce Hill measurement is 20 inches. It has been a long time since we have had that much snow here in Maryland, and in December too!.

 
We woke this morning to blue skies and beauty everywhere.

Super Daddy had the snow blower out before 8am this morning.

It attaches to the lawn mower so he stays nice and toasty in there! What guy wouldn't want to take this around for a whirl?

Little E is having a ball outside!

The girls made a snow fort under the trampoline. It's the place to be out in the back yard.

  

Little E took some time out of her busy schedule to pose for some shots for me.  

We are keeping snug and warm in the house, baking lots of cookies and spending time together.
