The Results

SES got a 3rd place on her cake. She was very disappointed. The cake that won was not as cute as hers. Oh well there's always next year. HES got a reserve champion on one of her photographs. So she was very pleased. She also got a first on another photograph. SES got 2nds on both her crafts. Jewelry and a Blingity bling do rag. So we did pretty well this year for our indoor exhibits.

We walked around a good bit and got to see some pretty cute animals.

The boys are settled in and ready for their big day tomorrow.

They are always very happy to us when we get there in the morning. I will let everyone know how we do tomorrow.

Making Weight

Well today we had to have the boys on the fair grounds at 8:00am. Superdaddy had to work so we were off by 7:30. We spent many many hours sitting around in the HOT weather just waiting to weigh our boys in. Finally at 4:00 they got weighed. They both made weight and can be sold. Yay! There is a weight limit for both light and heavy animals and we never know if we will make it or not. So there was a lot of sitting around and waiting. Oh and the scale broke in the middle of weighing the pigs so it too even more time! Ug!

 

This is Weber my God Sons steer. We had lots of free time to walk around and take pictures.

I could not resist this baby goat. He was adorable.

And a beautiful Charolais calf. His Mama was not happy that I was taking his picture but I did anyways.

 

It was a HOT day but the kids got free ice cream when they were finished. Little E really liked her cone!

The Cake

Well we got the cake in and entered. It was 90 degrees out and hot. We were afraid it would melt. Here it is

She worked very hard on it and was very proud of herself. I hope she gets a good ribbon! I will let you know how she does.

We Are Ready To Go

After a marathon day of baking, shearing and getting the loose ends all tied up on our craft projects. We are finally finished and ready to go to the fair.

In order to shear our lambs under their bellies, necks and faces. We have to flip them over onto their backs. Yup! So hear is Chadwick on his back ready for me to do the shearing. It is always my job to do the final shearing. I was not sure if I would be able to do it, but I got the job done without hurting myself. It's a dirty,smelly and sweaty job.

Once we get them flipped over they just lay there. They get all relaxed and comfy. So we are taking a deep breath over hear on Spruce Hill Farm. Relieved that we have gotten all of our jobs done for yet another 4-H county fair.

I will post a picture tomorrow of the cake SES has worked all day on. I did not want to give away her baking and decorating secrets. It looks great though and I can't wait to see how she does. :)

Friendly Hummingbird

I know I know I have been posting a LOT of pictures lately, but bare with me please! I have been feeling rather nonverbal lately. I am not sure why but I am just going with it here.

Yesterday I was sitting on my front porch. I do a lot of this nonstressfull activity. Usually when healthy I sit out there with a glass of wine. Since I have not been able to do that much lately I do it with my camera instead. So I was sitting there and a Mama hummingbird came up and nearly accosted me. Little E had on a bright colored shirt and I guess because she is so cute and all the mama wanted to get a better look at her. She got so close that Little E flinched and covered her face. So I ran walked as fast as I could and got my camera. These  pictures are what I took in about 3 minuets time.

She looked at me several times while I sat there. The Papa would not come near the feeder while I sat there. I guess he was a bit more shy than his mate. I think there are some babies somewhere near by.
